*Tola” is a traditional measure used in Pakistan (1 tola ~~ 11.664 grams).
*These values are as provided by major gold-rate aggregators and Sarafa/Jewellers associations.
Factors Affecting these Rates
- Purity / Karat:
- 24-karat gold is considered “purest” (~~99.9% gold).
- 22-karat gold is alloyed slightly, so naturally, its price is lower.
- 18-karat gold consists of even more alloy metals, hence lower still per gram or per tola.
2. Weight unit: Prices per tola tend to look large because of the higher weight irrespective of whether the quoted price is for a tola, or for 10 grams, or 1 gram.
- Local factors: Prices are affected by import duties, taxes, making charges, local demand (e.g., weddings), and currency fluctuations (especially the PKR / USD rate).
- International gold price: Gold is globally traded in cities like London, New York etc., so Pakistan’s gold rates often track global spot prices, adjusted for the exchange rate of PKR, in addition to import/transport/local markups.
